Visited on Friday 22nd July, mainly because it sounded promising, and there was an attractive river. So it was a bit disappointing to find it had dried up! Does this happen often? And is there a longer village in England?

I understand that the River Ash is one of the rivers that is a concern to the Enviromnment Agency.A recent report cited water extraction at source plus a very dry year as the reasons. As a child the Ash I remember always had a constant flow of water even as high up as Little Hadham Ash. It was complete with Mallards, Dabchicks, Coots, numerous Water Voles and a fair amount of Sticklebacks. Older village residents including my father saw Kingfishers. The pump at The Ford Little Hadham was the main source of Water for some Villagers until the late 50's. I presume it is was from the same source as the water now available in supermarkets and sold as Hadham Water which perhaps is one reason why it has dried up.
